About SDG

Concept
  • The goal of sustainable development is to eliminate poverty, reduce starvation, improve food security, improve nutritional value, and to emphasize sustainable agricultural development. By achieving all these parameters, by the year 2030, to create an equitable, fair and secure world - is a bold, universal agreement for its people and its prosperity.
Principle
  • The main principle of "Sustainable Development Goals -2030" (SDGs) is "leaving no one behind".
Implementation
  • On September 25, 2015, the General Assembly has adopted the "Sustainable Development Target - 2030" (SDGs) Agenda at the United Nations Summit, where 17 goals and 169 targets were decided. India was represented by Hon’ble Prime Minister. In India SDGs came into effect from January 1, 2016
At the national level
  • NITI AAYOG works as a nodal agency for the implementation of National Level SDGs – 2030 agenda. In its pursuance, in Gujarat State, a consultation under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, workshop was organized with concerned department secretaries and head of the department on Dt. 22/07/2016.
At the state level
  • In order to form road map of Gujarat, Seven Thematic Working Group (TWG) were formed during September-2016. Under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary, the High Power Committee has been formed, and the report of the Thematic Groups has been approved in the committee.
Monitoring Implementation of SDG Roadmap
  • An SDG cell has been setup at GSIDS and a professional agency has been hired for “SDG Cell &Integration with outcome Budget” for implementing SDGs roadmap, till date following activities has been completed.
  • A report has been prepared by mapping the indicators of SDGs and mapping of the schemes of various departments.
  • A work of mapping of SDGs with the outcome budget is in progress.
  • Preparation of Online MIS / Dashboard to track the performance of the progress of indicators of SDGs is under progress.
  • SDGs, Training has been given to SPAC / SPA working at the District Planning Officer's office in every district and in the direction of localizing SDGs. In the context of capacity building under SDGs, Training of Trainers has been organized for State/ District level offices.
  • Recently, NITI AAYOG has developed the composite SDGs India Index. According to this index the rank of Gujarat state is sixth and Index score is 64. According to which Gujarat state is included as a Performer State in the range of (50 - 64).
